Earth Hour is a worldwide phenomenon that occurs every last Saturday of the March of each year. Originally started in Sydney, Australia in the year 2007 and since then it has spread all over the world. Coordinated by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and other volunteer organizations, Earth Hour’s greatest strength is the power of people. Each participants are encourage to turn off their light and other non-essential electronics devices for around 1 hour.
This is the time to witness that major iconic landmarks like the Sky Tower in Auckland, New Zealand; the Mall of Asia Globe, Pasay, Philippines; the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada; the Big Ben in London, UK; the Colosseum of Rome, Italy; the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California, USA; the Sydney Harbour Bridge in Sydney, Australia; etc. will turn into darkness during the Earth Hour.
WWF aims to stop the degradation of the Earth’s natural environment. Last year during Earth Hour 2018, Dubai’s Dewa achieved record energy savings of 323MW and in the Philippines, energy savings during Earth Hour down to 165MW .
